Hello, i wanted to know how risky is it to go to big almaty lake & shymbaluk. Risky i meant by altitude. Are there facilities up there if one gets altitude sickness? Is there any day tours available which take even oxygen mask for precaution? I want to see big almat lake without climbing. I will go by car see it from the point take pic & go to shymbaluk next and come back.

Best is take a pvt. taxi, this way you go at your own pace, stay as long as you want and also have the opportunity of visiting the falcon centre which lies just in the foot hill. The taxi takes you both ways. However the lake approach may be closed owing to snow;so you may have to view it from the road.
I've heard tourists have come into trouble trying to get down to the lake? Is it still possible to hike down to the water? Is it worth the day trip from Almaty? thanks

I have been there 3 months ago. It was prohibited to enter to that place but guards just led us go :) You will not have an opportunity to swim as it's a water reservoir. You can take pictures and to have a look on the mountains. I wouldn't say that it's a one day activity. Anyway, if you have any questions, please feel free. I am Talgat, you can call me Tony :) I will be welcome to help our guests. Just msg me on whassup, +77017873266. Send your question I will try to answer :)
