An off-duty Fulton County deputy was injured and an armed suspect was killed in a shootout in southwest Atlanta late Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Fulton County sheriff’s deputy working an off-duty job was injured in a shootout in Atlanta’s West End on Monday.

ATLANTA, GA — The GBI is investigating after a part time Fulton County sheriff’s deputy is shot and a suspect is killed. The deputy, identified as Lt. Gerald Johnson, was working an off-duty security job on Monday in the West End when a few people flagged him down saying they were injured in a robbery at the Easy Rental on Lee Street.

A witness, who worked at the doughnut shop, flagged down the deputy after the Krispy Kreme they worked at was robbed.

A shootout in Atlanta's West End left a suspect dead, a deputy injured, and two others hurt after a robbery spree.

The confrontation followed an alleged double robbery at a Krispy Kreme and Easy Rental in the city's West End neighborhood.

Fulton County Sheriff Patrick "Pat" Labat provided an update in an evening news conference outside of Grady Hospital, where a deputy was shot and recovering.
