Holmoe’s highlights as the leader of BYU’s athletic program include piloting BYU out of the Mountain West Conference into the challenging and uncharted territory of independence. Then, during that stretch, he was tasked with preparing BYU to become attractive for Power Five membership.

BYU AD Tom Holmoe, who has overseen four NCAA titles in addition to helping the Cougars move to the Big 12 in football, is retiring after more than 20 years at the school.

After 20 years at the helm, and leading BYU through one of its most successful eras, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe announced his retirement effective at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 athletic season.
