A Vacaville police dog got shot and had his leg amputated after he took an armed man into custody Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

A Vacaville Police Department K9 dog was shot while apprehending a suspect on Wednesday, VPD said. The dog was shot in a limb and is expected to survive. Police responded to a home on the 300 block of Regency Circle after the suspect called 911 and threatened to shoot others.

Vacaville K-9 officer Murph was shot during the apprehension of an armed suspect Wednesday afternoon, the Vacaville Police Department shared.
