The Sugar Bowl was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but was pushed back due to public safety concerns. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 2 at 4:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Under the new format, 12 teams entered the tournament, led by the five champions of the Power 5 conferences, plus the seven highest-ranked teams from the entire Bowl Championship Series (BCS).
