Minnesota Senate Republicans will once again be the Minority party as early as next week. DFL Senator-elect Doron Clark will join the Senate, breaking a temporary tie that kicked off the legislative session in the Senate.

Democratic candidate Doron Clark has won a special election for a vacant Minnesota Senate seat, giving Democrats control of the upper chamber, according to Decision Desk HQ. Clark, who works at health care technology company Medtronic,

Democrat Doron Clark has won the special election in Minnesota Senate District 60, confirming majority control for the DFL in the Senate. A special election was held in the district – which covers northeast and parts of southeast Minneapolis –following the death of Sen. Kari Dziedzic of cancer last month.

DFLer Doron Clark won in the deep-blue Minneapolis district with 90 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Doron Clark (DFL) defeated Republican Abigail Wolters by over 7,000 votes — 7,783 to 746. There were also 32 write-in votes cast during the election.

Doron Clark won the special election for Senate District 60 with 90.9% of the vote on Tuesday beating Republican challenger Abigail Wolters for the seat. Clark’s win breaks a tie in the Minnesota Senate shifting control to Democrats.
