The Department of Homeland Security on Friday announced it would extend Temporary Protected Status for immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine and Sudan for 18 months.

More than 200,000 Salvadorans who have lived more than two decades in the United States can legally remain another 18 months, the Homeland Security Department said Friday in one of the Biden administration's final acts on immigration policy.

President Joe Biden extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, and Ukraine on Friday, shielding nearly a million people from deportation for up to 18 months. The move comes just 10 days before Biden leaves office.
