The death of former Orioles and Cubs pitcher Brian Matusz stunned many in and around Major League Baseball last week; his cause of death has now been revealed.

A pitcher who was drafted in the first round of the 2008 draft and went on to pitch 280 games for the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs has reportedly died.

Born in Grand Junction, Colorado, Matusz became a standout pitcher at the University of San Diego. His exceptional collegiate performance led the Baltimore Orioles to select him with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft. Just over a year later, Matusz made his MLB debut on August 4, 2009.

New details have emerged in the death of former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz. Matusz, 37, died just more than a week ago back on January 6.
