Israel released 110 Palestinian prisoners on Thursday, in exchange for three Israeli hostages held in captivity in Gaza.
The prisoners released were all men, ranging in age from 15 to 69, with nearly two dozen serving life sentences for more egregious crimes transferred to Egypt before further deportation.
Two Palestinians were killed in Jenin, in the northern West Bank, in an exchange of fire with Israeli forces, according to Palestinian reports on Thursday. The Israeli army meanwhile said that one soldier was killed and another seriously injured during an operation in the city.
Buses transported about 66 Palestinian detainees from Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank to Ramallah and 15 others to a detention center in East Jerusalem, from where they were released. A total of 29 prisoners convicted of involvement in attacks against Israelis are to be deported to Egypt and other countries, said the official.
