An Apalachee High School student is urging lawmakers to consider the issue of firearm access in their talks about improving school safety in the aftermath of the deadly shooting in Winder, Georgia, five months ago.

Georgia's state House speaker wants a statewide student database of disciplinary, mental health and law enforcement information to determine which students might commit violence at school.

“I feel like they could’ve done more,” said junior Maurice Rivera Guzman about why he decided to walk out of class with hundreds of others at Apalachee High School on Tuesday. It was the same walk many of them made in September, that time fleeing a school shooter who killed two of their peers and two teachers.
