No more XPS, Inspiron, Latitude? Yep. Dell is eliminating its well-known PC family names across its laptop and desktop PC stacks, aiming to simplify what's what for new customers.

This rework marks a major shakeup for Dell's PC naming schema, which has used the Inspiron, XPS, Latitude, and Precision monikers since the 1990s. In consolidating its branding, Dell hopes to make it easier for consumers to figure out which device will best match their needs, streamlining the oft-complicated experience of buying a PC.

The computer giant is ditching decades-old sub-brands in favor of ones nearly identical to Apple’s. They’re derivative, but effective.

Dell has overhauled its PC product lineup by shunting nearly all of its PC models into three tracks: Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max.

Dell announced that the XPS brand is dead, and its computers will have more straightforward names going forward.

On the consumer side, the Dell 14 and 16 Plus (along with their 2-in-1 versions) look like typical mainstream Dell laptops. The Dell Premium systems, formerly XPS, look completely unchanged from last year. (I've heard that we likely won't see any big changes for that lineup until next year.)
