WhatsApp alleged last week that Paragon Solutions spyware was used to target users of the messaging app in two dozen countries.

Israeli spyware maker Paragon has terminated its dealings with Italy, including disconnecting its access to a military-grade surveillance technology Graphite, following reports of misuse of the intrusive technology to target detractors of the government in a possible case of human rights abuse.

WhatsApp has stated that it is not yet clear who was behind the attack. However, it must be noted that Paragon's software, much like Pegasus, a spyware developed by the Israeli NSO Group, is typically used by government entities and agencies aiming to target specific individuals or groups.
