A funeral home fire in East Greenwich has been deemed an "accident." Rhode Island Fire Marshal Tim McLaughlin told NBC 10 on Monday that the Hill-Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations fire started in the fireplace.

The cause of the fire that broke out at a historic funeral home in East Greenwich was determined to be accidental.

Both ladder pipes froze during the operation forcing crews to work around it, East Greenwich Fire Chief William Perry said.

A massive fire tore through Hill Funeral Home early Sunday morning, drawing a multi-department response as crews worked to contain the flames.

The owner of a historic funeral home severely damaged by fire early Sunday morning plans to rebuild and will partner with other funeral homes in the meantime.
