Groups representing some of South Africa’s white minority reject President Trump offer of refugee status and resettlement in the United States.

Whites make up around 7% of South Africa’s population of 62 million but own approximately 70% of the private farming land. The government says that inequality needs to be addressed.

The president ordered that all foreign assistance to South Africa be halted and said his administration would prioritize the resettling of white, “Afrikaner refugees” into the United States.

Thousands of white South African farmers have shown interest in moving to the United States after an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.
