Schools, offices and businesses in the Baton Rouge area are starting to announce closures as Louisiana is gearing up for extremely cold weather and the potential for winter weather early next week.

All state offices will be closed on Tuesday "due to extreme winter weather," according to a social media post on Friday from Louisiana State Civil Service, the agency that acts as the human resources department for state employees.

All state offices will be closed statewide Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to extreme winter weather. Commissioner of Administration Taylor Barras made the announcement Friday morning. Many area businesses are still making decisions on whether or not to close their doors due to the extreme weather and road conditions expected next week.
