The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred Saturday around 6:23 p.m. Eastern Time with an epicenter about 129 miles southwest of George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands.

An earthquake measuring 7.2 magnitude hit north of Honduras, prompting a tsunami warning. Initially recorded as a 6.89 magnitude, the quake was located at a depth of 10 km by the German Research Center for Geosciences.
