A secret tunnel discovered last week on the U.S.-Mexico border will be sealed by Mexican authorities, an army official in Ciudad Juarez said Saturday.

A tunnel along the border wall in Texas, going from Mexico into the U.S. and believed to have been used by smugglers, was discovered last week.

General Jose Lemus, commander of Ciudad Juarez's military garrison, said the tunnel "must have taken a long time" to build, suggesting "it could have been one or two years".

A smuggling tunnel was recently discovered in a section of the U.S.-Mexico border wall in El Paso, Texas, authorities say. State and federal border protection agencies along with officials from Mexico conducted a joint operation last week in which they found a man-made tunnel that likely is used to smuggle people into the country.
