As I watch the Los Angeles fires unfold, I’m painfully reminded that these challenges are universal. Fire doesn’t recognize borders, and neither should our solutions.

Initial location: Los Angeles County, Calif. Hughes Postfire Baer initially started 5:59 a.m. Feb. 1 in Los Angeles County.

The Eaton fire, in the Los Angeles national forest and the Altadena area, north of Pasadena to city's north-east. At least two people have died in that fire, which has burned at least 890 hectares.
