Brendan Whitworth says U.S.-made beer should be reclassified to better capture the spirit that’s ‘intrinsic to the American beer

Anheuser-Busch's CEO is asking the company's distributors and partners to drop the term "domestic" and replace it with "American," saying it better recognizes the industry's identity.

Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth is calling on the beer industry to replace the term "domestic" with "American" when referring to U.S.-made beers. In a letter to distributors and partners, Whitworth said the word "domestic" is frequently used at points of sale, but he would prefer the term "American" to be used instead.

People don’t buy “domestic” cars or salute the “domestic” flag, so they shouldn’t drink “domestic” beer. At least, that’s what Anheuser-Busch’s CEO thinks.
