A gas leak forced authorities to close several blocks of University Avenue in downtown Georgetown Wednesday morning, with closures expected to last eight hours

A gas leak off Main Street and University Avenue has prompted road closures near downtown Georgetown, which are expected to last through the evening of Jan. 29.

The Georgetown Police Department said a gas leak on University Avenue has led to road closures while crews work on repairs.

A gas leak in a four-inch main caused the closure of several streets near downtown Georgetown and the evacuation of 388 people, officials said.

Authorities are evacuating people near downtown Georgetown following a gas leak at Main Street and University Avenue.

Crews have isolated and topped a gas leak in Georgetown that caused traffic delays Wednesday. As of 5 p.m., Atmos Energy crews said the damaged natural gas pipeline in Georgetown is no longer an issue and that evacuation orders have been lifted.
