On Tuesday 21 June researchers and operational staff at BAS’ King Edward Point, Bird Island and Rothera Research Station took part in a decades old tradition to mark the Antarctic Winter Solstice.

No-one else was injured and the BAS has launched a full investigation. The Rothera station is a center for biology, geoscience and atmospheric science programs, housing 22 research and support staff.
