Overnight, 3-6 inches of snow blanketed southeast Michigan making morning commutes to work Thursday treacherous and closing hundreds of schools and districts, including the Detroit Public Schools, the largest one in the state.

This will be the sixth storm system to impact New Jersey in less than two weeks. Another storm is on tap for this weekend, followed by a big blast of arctic air.

Rain will become heavy overnight into Sunday morning, accompanied by gusty southerly winds. This will warm temperatures into the lower 50s by Sunday afternoon. An Alert Day may be needed for Sunday due to heavy rainfall, which, combined with melting snow, could lead to minor flooding concerns.

Another powerful storm system is expected to sweep across a wide swath of the United States, bringing heavy rain to Southern California, heavy snow to parts of the West and Midwest, and more snow and freezing rain to the Northeast and New England.
