Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, has launched its first standalone app for Grok, the chatbot designed to challenge giants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.

xAI has released an iOS app in the US for its Grok chatbot, as spotted earlier by TechCrunch. The standalone app version of the chatbot, which xAI calls a beta, can perform the same functions as the one built into X, as it can field real-time information, answer questions, and generate images.

But what makes Grok stand out is its link to X, giving it access to real-time information and a unique perspective. This launch also marks the arrival of Grok 2, the latest and greatest version of the AI model,

The AI startup launched its first stand-alone consumer app, as the company tries to catch up with more established players such as OpenAI and Google in the generative AI race.

xAI has released their standalone iOS app for the Grok chatbot, just for X users. Spotted first by Tech Crunch, the app is able to perform the same tasks as done by Grok via X, like rewriting, summarising and generating images from text prompts. Users can also access real-time data and news on the app.

Currently the standalone Grok app is only available for iOS, although you can still use Grok within the X app on Android. It isn't clear when an Android Grok app will launch or when it will be available worldwide.
